Jon Weaver '06, G'17

Alumnus on the Forefront of Worcester’s Biotech Innovation

Jon Weaver ’06, G’16 chose Assumption for its top liberal arts education and discovered a passion for creating value in both companies and the community. In 2019, Weaver was named CEO of the Worcester biotechnology incubator MassachusettsBiomedical Initiatives (MBI), and within a year oversaw a project doubling MBI’s laboratory space.

A Lifetime of Serving Others

After dedicating her career to serving others, Sr. Cathleen Toomey, R.S.M. G’69 retired in December 2018, but not before leaving a significant impact on the Assumption and Worcester communities. She credits her Assumption education for giving her the strength and skills needed to serve others during her years of ministry.

Sometimes scoffed at and often misunderstood, esports – organized, multiplayer, computer-based competitions – are hugely popular and, in recent years, have exploded on college campuses. Assumption has established a team in one of the country’s fastest-growing industries and is one of Assumption’s new Blue & White Club Sports.

Assumption’s Newest State-of-the-Art Health Sciences Building

Assumption nursing and physician assistant students will be housed in the institution’s new state-of-the-art, three-story Health Sciences building. The 41,000-square-foot facility is located next to the Emmanuel d’Alzon Library, across from the Hagan Campus Center, and offers a nursing floor, a PA floor, among other multi-use classrooms.
