Assumption was founded as a small institution filling a need to educate the sons of Franco-American families in Worcester and the surrounding communities; while much has changed both physically and academically, the University continues its mission to form thoughtful, compassionate graduates who fill unique needs in communities across the U.S. and even the world.
As Assumption celebrated another milestone in its 116-year history this fall amid a pandemic with the transition to university status, bringing to completion a dream of the Venerable Father Emmanuel d’Alzon, the sense of an academic community has never been stronger at Assumption.
The idea of student success has evolved. Success does not pinpoint grade point average, but rather with extracurricular activities, internships, and engagement in community service that fully form an Assumption graduate. We are constantly innovating and evolving our programs to ensure all students have a successful experience.
Despite the challenges facing higher education, Assumption continues to evolve and celebrate watershed moments in its storied 115-year history. This edition of Assumption Magazine shares a number of examples of the institution’s innovative approach to those challenges, but it also explores a critical turning point in our rich history.
