George F. Aubin, Sr., Ph.D. ’60, G’62 (1939-2020)

George AubinGeorge F. Aubin, Sr., Ph.D., 81, a long-time professor and professor emeritus at Assumption, passed away on April 23. Prof. Aubin retired from Assumption in 2006, where he taught French, linguistics, and American Indian studies for more than 43 years. He attended many Algonquian conferences in the United States and Canada, researched Native American languages, and published numerous articles and dictionaries throughout his career. While at Assumption, Prof. Aubin served as chair of the French Department and on many committees, forming lifelong friendships with many of his colleagues. Teaching was his passion, and he influenced the lives of many students.

Prof. Aubin was proud of his Assumption legacy and was honored to hand out diplomas to his graduating children, Judith (Aubin) Mancini ’81, Gregory Aubin ’83, Nanette (Aubin) Smith ’83 and husband Robert Smith ’94, Glenn Aubin ’94, Jillienne (Aubin) Church ’99, and daughter-in-law Michele Aubin CE’12; and grand- children Andrew Smith ’12, Jessica (Aubin) LeVasseur ’14, and Jordan Aubin ’16. His brother, Donald Aubin ’63, also graduated from Assumption.
