Patrick Folan ’85

Patrick FolanPatrick Folan ’85 graduated from Assumption 35 years ago, but the education he received and the lessons he learned continue to have an impact in his daily life. “My four years at Assumption provided a solid foundation for both personal and professional success that I carry with me today,” said Folan, who is a senior executive with a global financial services firm based in New York City, where he guides teams and senior leadership to innovate, experiment, learn, and adapt strategies to manage business risks and challenges. “My studies taught me to be a good communicator, to think critically, to challenge myself in a positive way, to seek my personal truth, and to find joy in service to others.”

Folan is “incredibly grateful for the people, places, and memories that have helped shape my journey,” including former Professors George Doyle, Ph.D., and James McCarthy, Ph.D., whose compassion, kind nature, and teaching style led him to pursue a career in economics and finance. In gratitude, Folan mentors students and regularly hosts Assumption students and faculty members during the annual New York City spring break trip. He has also made a bequest to the University in his will.

“I think it is important to leave a positive legacy,” he shared. “I am pleased to do my part in helping future generations of Assumption students as a way to show my appreciation and to further promote the mission of the University as it strives to prepare students known for critical intelligence, thoughtful citizenship, and compassionate service.”
